English Karate Federation Regional Championships 2010

Dudley in the West Midlands was the location selected for this years Regional Championships and a three in one format was adopted for the event. That is to say, all three regions were to compete simultaneously, having been allocated two Tatami's each in the venue. The Crystal Leisure centre had been arranged to run the new EKF tournament and after months of planning and a few teething problems, it all passed off successfully. As for our own LKK Karate team, we sent 14 competitors to the event, covering both Kata and Kumite over the two day event 20th/21st March 2010.

Our first competitor was Sam Day who was competing in the Boys 12-13yrs Kata section. Sam has been doing well in this section over the last year and this proved once again to be the case reaching the final once again taking the Silver position.

In the Boys 9yrs and under we had 3 competitors competing but with only 1 reaching the medal positions with Zak Coates winning his first regional medal a well deserved Bronze.

Next up in the Boys 10-11yrs were Laurence Gill and Jack Appleby, both boys taking joint Bronze in this section.

Jake Pickering in the Boys 12-13yrs had a great championship excelled his-self in this group fighting his way to the final but having to settle for the Silver on this occasion.

Chloe Duce in the Girls -54kg has been fighting at a much higher level recently and this was to be the case once again at this championship in a very high level group winning herself the Bronze medal.

Our first Senior to compete was Loren Cook in the Ladies -68kg is always one of LKK top competitors and proved this once again taking the Silver in this section.

Well done to our two new Southern Regional Champions both winning Gold medals and this years title, Emily Griffiths in the Senior Ladies -50kg and Chris Harris in the Senior Men -60kg.

Silver: 3
Bronze: 4

Toby Tweed On Top Form

Toby Tweed who trains at our Gt Holland club has been training hard over the past 2 years. But at this grading, impressed the panel showing a maturity above his years and grade from the very start showing excellent Dojo etiquette, strong skills in his basics, Kata and Kumite alike which reflected that he is now comfortable and confident with his Karate and for his outstanding efforts he has been awarded Grade of the Grade by the panel, well done Toby.
