The third of six battles in the British Karate Team

Event Report
Kata
(Five flag system in operation).
Fenella Stuart:
Fenella went up against a good EKK opponent with her Nidan kata
and was beaten on the day 4 flags to 1. She then had a no-show from
ELKAI giving her a walkover 5 flags to 0.
Chloe Duce:
ELKAI did not put up an opponent for Chloe so 5 flags to 0 was the
result. Her Jion against another good EKK competitor was not, unfortunately,
good enough to give her the win, losing 1 to 4.
Zak Coates:
Zak’s Yondan against ELKAI was far too good and gave him a
5 to 0 victory. The EKK competitor was a tougher opponent but Zak
still scraped through 3 to 2 giving LKK a win in this category.
Sam Day:
EKK sent out another good performer against Sam who’s Jion
was only good enough for 1 flag. His Kanku Dai, however, was far
too good for ELKAI and Sam reversed the score to win by 4 flags
to 1.
Kumite
(Three flag system in operation).
Maisie Raymond:
Maisie faced an offensive ELKAI opponent and could never get close
enough to score on her consistently. In the end she had to settle
for a 1-4 scoreline. No EKK opponent was available for her to fight
this time LKK took an 8-0.
Zak Coates:
Zak had an opponent from ELKAI who was intent on using only back
kicks. Although it scored early on it became less accurate, and
very predictable, landing consistently on the elbow. Zak was hurt
early on in the fight and, although getting emotional, managed to
come from behind to win 9-4. His EKK opponent was no match for Zak
as he went first to score easily winning 8-0.
Jack Appleby:
Jack returned to BKTL to face an opponent from ELKAI he had met
weeks earlier in the EKK English. The result was the same as then
as Jack went into an easy 7-0 lead. Although he let a kick get through
towards the end he still won 7-2. EKK put up a decent fighter and
Jack went down in points early. Although he chased he could not
make up the difference and lost 4-0.
Jasmine Lancaster:
Jasmine weighed up her ELKAI opponent early on and although the
early exchanges were close she pulled away and won 7-1. Against
EKK Jasmine scored well, letting the other girl do the running.
She coolly won 5-1.
Mitchell Williams:
Mitchell was again a banker double win for LKK. He settled in early
against his ELKAI opponent and scored at will resulting in an 8-0
victory. EKK’s competitor managed to score a point on Mitchell
but that was just a blip as he slipped into a relaxed fighting style
to win with enough to spare, 3-1.
Jake Pickering:
ELKAI put forward another offensive opponent intent on a battle.
Jake countered and overcame the awkward style to win impressively
6-1. EKK’s fighter took toll on Jake’s previous tough
fight and it was a 6-3 loss for LKK this time.
Chloe Duce:
Chloe had 2 larger opponents to fight and used greater speed and
agility to her advantage. Against the ELKAI fighter Chloe was far
too quick and won easily 8-0. EKK then came onto the mat and Chloe
repeated the 8-0 scoreline finishing with a classy heel kick.
Daniel Szabo:
Daniel was a little off colour physically but he was still determined
to fight and it was well worth it for LKK. He beat an ELKAI opponent
3-0 and then had an EKK fighter who seemed intent on going punch
for punch with him. Daniel had speed to spare as each time he was
first to the punch and won 8-3.
Overall
Our share of the spoils has decreased as EKK’s
has increased. We were 2 Golds down on the last BKTL meeting but
we did have 2 categories where we put up no competitor. Even so,
EKK have improved and, although ELKAI managed a Gold this time,
they lost a number of their Silvers to EKK. It just shows how a
few points can have a dramatic bearing on the final result. In this
format you can help the team by scoring points even in defeat!
LKK: Gold 7, Silver 6, Bronze 1
EKK: Gold 5, Silver 7, Bronze 2
ELKAI: Gold 1, Silver 3, Bronze 10
