Welsh Open Championships 2009

The WKGB Open Championships were held on Saturday 10th October at the Welsh Institute of Sport, Cardiff. We had a small number of our more experienced competitors enter into the championships, along with a number of our younger squad joining them gaining essential experiences of attending a championship at this level.

Sam Day was to be our first medal winner fighting his way through the rounds where he was to take the Silver medal.

Emily Appleby a relative new comer to the National circuit showed she is going to be a force to be reckoned with fighting through the rounds to the final where she was to win her first National title Welsh Open Champion 2009.

Kelly Pender was next up in the Female Cadets winning herself a Bronze medal.

Emily Griffiths in the Ladies -61kg fought her way to the finals where she had to settle for the Silver on this occasion. Chris Harris in the Men's -60kg also had to settle for the Silver losing by one point in the final to his Welsh International counterpart.
