Healthy Schools
Links Karate Kai were invited to Walton Primary School on Friday
20th November to take part in their healthy schools program, which
we are always happy to take part in this type of event and help
to promote a healthier life style.
Sensei Chris Harris ran the 20min slot which was held in the school’s
main hall which enabled the students and parents of Walton school
to join in and have a taste of what Links Karate Kai has to offer.
Healthier children do better in learning and in life. By enabling
children and young people to make positive changes to their behaviour
regarding health and well-being, schools can help them reach their
full potential in terms of achievement and fulfilment. They can
also encourage good habits which will benefit children and young
people both now and in the future.
The Government’s vision of the 21st century school has at
its heart the need to address elements of the lives of children
and young people, with a particular emphasis on health and well-being.
Healthy Schools and Every Child Matters
Every Child Matters: Change for Children is a comprehensive approach
to the well-being of children and young people from birth to age
19. It places national outcomes for children and young people firmly
at the centre of all policies and approaches involving children’s
services.
The five outcomes for children and young people are:
Be healthy
Stay safe
Enjoy and achieve through learning
Make a positive contribution to society
Achieve economic well-being.
Every Child Matters expects organisations which provide services
to children and young people, including schools, to work together
in more integrated and effective ways. It also encourages children
and young people to have more say about issues that affect them
as individuals and collectively.
A big thanks goes to the students of Links Karate
Kai that attend Walton primary who helped in the session; Alex Shires,
Sam Shires, Harry Blundell, Jack Appleby, Toby Tweed and Emily Appleby.
Tigers make the grade
Links Tigers held their quarterly assessment on the 26th November
at Clacton Leisure Centre, Vista Road.
The Class which is held every Thursday at 4.15pm is the only Pre
Karate class which has been designed solely for the 3 to 5 year
olds. A mix of basic Karate skills and fitness through fun in our
local area.
The children went through their assessments with flying colours
under the Instructor’s careful guidance and her team and have
now gained their new Tiger grades and belts. Phillipa Dowton, Adam
Hayhoe and Harry Moore all received Tiger Blue assessment and Ben
Stockwell Tiger Orange. Congratulations to our young Tigers.
