EKK English Open Karate Championships
The LKK Squad proved once again to be a force to be reckoned with
25 members from the Kata and Kumite A and B Squads when they competed
at the England Karate Kan Open Championships 2009 on Sunday the
17th May at the Tolworth Recreation Centre Surrey. The competition
was well prescribed with over 500 entries into the competing categories
so we were all expecting a long day.
The Kata sections started at 9.30 with our young Kata squad included.
Gaining our first medals of the day, Emily Davis, Ben Jones and
Lincon Pretlove took Bronze medals but better was to follow from
our Kata Gold medallists Tom Raymer, Sam Day and Laurence Gill who
all performed to their best winning 1st places in their groups.
The Kata team Sam Day, Zak Coates and Laurence Gill competing for
the first time at competition after a lot of training and effort
both from the boys and Kata coach Alix Harris, performed to their
best and received their just rewards with 1st place Gold.
With the day proceeding with these great results in the bag the
Individual Kumite sections got under way and the Squad went from
strength to strength through the fighting sections. Millie Jordan,
Maisie Raymond, Fenella Stuart, Tom Raymer and Joseph Redgewell
all fought their way to gain 3rd places and the Bronze medals.
Laurence Gill, Emily Davis, Ben Jones, Chloe Duce and Loren Cook
all worked their ways to finals in their sections but on this occasion
had to settle for 2nd place and the Silver medals. Saving our golden
finalists and this year title holders Zak Coates, Sam Day, Mitchell
Williams and Chris Harris all went all the way and achieved their
goals taking the 1st places and their Gold medals.
Our Kumite Teams were to follow with 2 of the LKK Teams to place
3rd in the Bronze position the Boys 13/15yrs; Tom Raymer, Daniel
Szabo and Jack Briggs and the Ladies Team; Loren Cook, Reisha Hull
and Lauren Adams. To follow were 2 more LKK Teams, the Boys 10/12yrs;
Mitchell Williams, Jack Wright and Jake Pickering, also the Boys
under 9yrs; Ben Jones, Ethan Day and Joseph Redgewell, both these
teams fighting their ways to their finals but having to accept the
Silver this time.
But once again leaving the best team results for last were the
following 2 teams: the Girls under 9yrs team Maisie Raymond, Fenella
Stuart and Millie Jordan and the Boys under 9yrs team Lincon Pretlove,
Zak Coates and Laurence Gill. Both teams fighting their ways through
the rounds of the categories, both to gain their place in the finals
and both coming away with this years 1st place Gold medallists.
